2006 was a good year for punk rock.

We formed Desmond & The Tutus  in December of 2005, in Doug’s bedroom in Pretoria. Here are some pics from our early rehearsal sessions and our first  few gigs.

Good old 88 Lounge in Norwood.

Craig and Shane’s dad is a preacher, so we used to practice in the church and use all their gear to record our demos.

We were offered a ‘record deal’ at one of our first shows by a company called Spitfire Records. Ever heard of them? No? Neither had we, but hey record deal. We spent a day recording with them and then decided we’d better not.

 

Our first ever gig at the Blues Room in Village Walk, Sandton. When we first started the band, none of us had ever been to a rock show, we had no idea there were even rock venue in Jo’burg. We did a google search and found out that the Blues Room had an unsigned night, so we went and played there.

Shane’s wife (then girlfriend) Angie took these “press shots” for us. Who we thought would publish them, who knows.
